Berkeley Senior Services
Individuals, organizations or groups volunteer for seniors. Taking care of lawns, raking, trimming trees, snow removal and shoveling, painting, light house cleaning, and other odd jobs around the house.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters
Take a little time - make a difference. Become a Big Brother or Big Sister volunteer.

Bluemont Concert Series
Help plan, support and present Bluemont's cultural programs. People of all ages, interests and talents are welcome. Projects include: performer hospitality, committee leadership, concert site set up and clean up, welcoming guests, fund-raising, promotions and poster distribution.

Canterbury Center
Volunteers, individual and groups, help make each day brighter at Canterbury Center of Shepherdstown.

CASA
Volunteers are Court Appointed Special Advocates who appear for abused children in court and help them find safe and permanent homes.

Eagle Wings
A faith based, nonprofit 501 (3), nondenominational agency dedicated to working with at-risk teenage girls by teaching Biblical application in all aspects of life. Our Wind & Wing Alternative Day program provides a creative, peaceful learning environment where girls at-risk of dropping out of school can achieve by getting back on track academically and socially. Using gardening, horsemanship, and academics girls learn about life, themselves and God. We are in need of volunteers to work during school hours with gardening and horses. If you love to garden or have experience with horses and would like to share your talents with our girls, please call our office. Guiding Eyes for the Blind
An ongoing need for individuals or families for future guide dog foster homes. Foster families receive 8 week old, specially bred Labrador Retreivers. Local support is provided by an Area Coordinator who teaches puppy socialization/obedience classes and who supervises the puppy raising experience. Puppy classes are held twice a month in Charles Town. Puppy raisers are required to attend two classes per month. All necessary veternary expenses are provided. Potential guide dog puppies receive love and attention for 14 to 15 months. Once the dog is mature, it travels to Guiding Eyes for a final evaluation and to begin formal training to master guide dog skills. For more information visit or call:

Hospice of the Panhandle
Plant a garden, bake cookies, deliver information to doctors, lead a support group, paint a room, shop, make a scrap book, office help, play an instrument, clean a home, videotape messages, deliver thank yous, cook a meal. In Berkeley & Jefferson County, training will be held at no cost or obligation.
Meeting: Wednesday & Friday mornings at 9:30-noon.

Hospice Teen Volumteer Program
What can a teen volunteer do? Help with special projects - Visit Hospice patients - Help patience complete Life Reviews - Be a buddy to a child in grief. Volunteers who wish to work with patients or families must complete fifteen additional hours of training. If you are a teen interested in volunteering for Hospice, please call.

Jeffferson County Health Department
Emergency mass vaccination and medication dispensing clinics are needed in select locations throughout the county should a naturally occuring outbreak or a bioterrorism event occur. A list of area medical professionals who would be willing to volunteer during a large scale emergency is being perpared. Practicing, retired, or otherwise employed medical professionals, such as doctors, nurses, EMT's, pharmacists, nurse assistants, dentists, veterinarians and others are encouraged to respond. In addition, public health personnel and professionally trained medical volunteers are needed to perform key clininc support roles such as registration, data entry, language translation, directing foot traffic, etc. If you are willing to volunteer in a public health crisis and your regular job would not require you to be elsewhere during a natural or bioterrorism disaster, please fill out the questionaire on our web site or call: www.jeffersoncohd.org

Literacy Volunteers of the Eastern Panhandle
Tutors needed one or two hours a week to work one-on-one with adult basic literacy students and/or English as a second language students. Tutor training is offered.

Make-A-Wish
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Northern West Virginia is looking for volunteers interested in wishgranting, special events, external fund-raising, special projects and communications. To voluntee, or if you know a child who might qualify for a wish, call (304)292-5600 or (800)808-9474.

Master Gardener
If you are a Master Gardener in Berkeley or Jefferson County and would like to become more involved in the program, please call. We need volunteers for a variety of projects both on the county and state level. If you have some time and like to help with a variety of activities, please call and let us know that you are willing to help out.

Meals On Wheels
Deliver a meal - can you find the time to volunteer a few hours each month to deliver a meal to your elderly, convolescing and shut-in neighbors. Drivers are needed for a new route due to an increase in clients receiving a hot lunch. Our program is growing and there is a need to shorten some of the routes so that clients will receive their lunches in a timely fashion and opur volunteer drivers will not have such a heavy delivery schedule. Please call for information. Help make a difference to our home bound neighbors by providing citizens the opportunity to remain in their own homes. Meals On Wheels is a member of the Berkeley County United Way.

PASS of Berkeley County
Seeking volunteers willing to meet with a student for 30 minutes a week at school. PASS, "Providing Academic and Self-Esteem Support," is a program sponsered by Berkeley County Schools in an effort to lower the dropout rate by involving the community and parents with students of every grade level. A training course is offered to interest volunteers.
Meeting: Every Thursday at 9:30-11:30am.
